Amazon is in trouble! It is under antitrust investigation because it is unfair to sellers? !
According to the Financial Times, Washington, D.C., has sued Amazon for allegedly violating local competition laws and illegally tying merchants to restrictive sales rules.

The report mentioned that Karl Racine, Attorney General of the District of Columbia, accused Amazon of charging third-party merchants who sell products through its platform up to 40% of the product price, and also asked them not to sell the products at lower prices on other platforms.

The report also mentioned that Amazon has been accused in the European Union for its treatment of European merchants who use its platform to sell goods, but this is the first time the company has faced similar charges in the United States.

The newly filed lawsuit alleges that Amazon’s “restrictive contracts” artificially raise prices for consumers.

Racine said:

Amazon has been successful because it controls pricing across the entire online retail market, giving itself an advantage over other platforms.

As a result, Amazon is increasing its dominance in the market and illegally undermining the ability of other platforms to compete for market share.

However, the report also mentioned that the lawsuit filed by Racine only applies to cases that violate the regulations of the District of Columbia. But this will be seen as a test of whether other states and federal agencies can file lawsuits against Amazon.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the U.S. House of Representatives Antitrust Subcommittee previously conducted a 16-month investigation into Amazon, Facebook, Google and Apple, and released a report in October last year saying that the four major technology giants used their dominant position to suppress competition and stifle innovation.

In October last year, the U.S. Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google; in December last year, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed an antitrust lawsuit against Facebook.
