What is India's ARAI vehicle and parts certification? India's ARAI vehicle and parts certification review
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) was established in 1966 as a leading automotive R&D organization in India jointly established by the Indian automobile industry and the Government of India. ARAI is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has recognized ARAI as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO). In addition, ARAI is one of the primary testing and certification bodies for the Central Automobile Rules .

Scope of certification:

  1. Two-wheeled motor vehicles:

Petrol/diesel/CNG/LPG vehicles with engine capacity exceeding 25 cc

· Electric vehicles with a power exceeding 250 W and a maximum design speed exceeding 25 kmph.

2. Three-wheeled motor vehicles:

Passenger or freight transport

· Complete vehicle

Driving an incomplete vehicle in the form of a chassis

Petrol/diesel/CNG/LPG vehicles with engine capacity exceeding 25 cc

Electric vehicles with a power exceeding 250 W and a speed exceeding 25 kmph.

3. Four-wheeled motor vehicles:

Passenger or freight transport

· Complete vehicle

Driving an incomplete vehicle in the form of a chassis

Petrol/diesel/CNG/LPG vehicles with engine capacity exceeding 25 cc

Electric vehicles

Type approval requirements are broadly divided into the following categories: M1/N1 category vehicles and outside M1/N1 (i.e. M2, M3, N2 and N3)

4. Agricultural tractor vehicles, construction equipment vehicles

5. Component Certification

Safety components, such as horns, rearview mirrors, lighting/signaling devices, seats, brake fluid, brake hoses, etc., are notified according to the specific rules of CMVR. The following table shows the key safety components that need to undergo COP at this stage. COP is conducted once every two years or once a year according to the safety requirements for different products.

1. Documents required for application:

Business license

· ISO9001 or ISO/TS16949 quality system certificate (English version), if available

Factory Organization Chart

Product drawings

Production flow chart

Quality Manual

Quality control plan

· List of test equipment (calibration schedule, calibration certificate)

Production equipment list

2. Factory inspection requirements:

· Production process (from raw materials entering the warehouse to finished products leaving the warehouse)

· Factory layout, where defective products are placed

· Various record forms for production lines

· Inspection: incoming material inspection, process inspection, finished product inspection

· Laboratories, witnessed testing, personnel qualifications, equipment calibration

· Methods for handling non-conforming products, such as records, documents, and forms (including raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished products)
