Double! This FBA fee is about to skyrocket

Double! This FBA fee is about to skyrocket

When using FBA, there will often be some unsellable inventory due to customer returns and other reasons. For these unsellable products, Amazon will prompt you to dispose of them using the disposal or removal function of Amazon FBA.

These two functions are also used when sellers need to dispose of slow-moving inventory to avoid high long-term storage fees. Therefore, disposal removal is an FBA function that sellers are more likely to use, but of course this operation is not free.

Amazon Europe recently announced a new FBA fee adjustment, which significantly increased the fees for these two functions.

Below I will take you through the detailed fee changes, and then provide my own analysis of why Amazon is adjusting its disposal fees.

Specific fee changes

The fee adjustment is divided into three parts:

Domestic Removal Fee Changes

Removing inventory from domestic FBA warehouses is actually the basic removal fee that everyone often uses. It is called the domestic removal fee because Europe has a cross-border removal service.

This fee was adjusted in only two countries: the UK station saw a decrease, while the Spanish station saw an increase.

Changes to disposal fees

There is nothing much to say about the changes in disposal fees. The five stations involved, namely the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, have all been adjusted from the previous uniform price to a tiered charge based on weight. Below are the disposal fees for standard sizes.

Below are the disposal charges for large sizes.

The table looks a bit complicated, mainly because before the change, the charging standards of each site were different. After this change, the charging standards of each site are the same (the unit of the UK site is pounds).

The rest are easy to understand. Let me give you an example of the charge for items over 5 kg (the standard size is 1 kg).

For example, if I have a large product weighing 5.4kg, it is rounded to 5kg, which means I will be charged 2.5 euros (pounds) according to the standard of 2001-5000kg. If it weighs 5.5kg, it will be charged according to the standard of 6kg, which is 3.4 euros (pounds).

The cost has really increased a lot. Standard parts used to cost only 0.1 Euro regardless of weight, but now they cost 0.25 - the heavier the item, the more expensive it is, more than doubling the price.

Cross-border removal fee changes

Inventory in any Amazon EU FBA center can be returned to a European address outside the local store, but the cost is definitely higher than the cost of removing it from the local warehouse. Below is the details of the cross-border removal fees after this adjustment.

Please note that the rounding here is to 0.1kg, which is different from the disposal fee above.

Cross-border removal is still a feature under testing. We do not rule out price or policy changes in the future. If so, we will continue to follow up.

The changes in costs are the three parts mentioned above, and the biggest impact is the doubling of disposal costs.

The new policy will take effect on September 3, after which sellers' disposal costs will skyrocket. This is not good news for a commonly used function like disposal.

The European site has recently introduced many favorable policies, and Amazon also plans to continue its efforts in Europe. It has also provided sellers in Europe with a VAT subsidy of up to 8,000 euros. Why would Amazon want to hinder sellers with abandonment fees at this critical juncture?

Behind the skyrocketing disposal costs

Last month, Amazon was criticized by European consumers and media for discarding large quantities of brand new goods. Some French lawmakers even proposed banning or restricting e-commerce platforms from discarding products.

Daily Mail: Amazon destroys millions of dollars worth of brand new merchandise

Criticism from European consumers

Under the current public opinion environment in Europe, Amazon must reduce the number of abandoned goods, and increasing the disposal fees for third-party sellers is a step to control the number of abandoned goods.

If the government's disposal ban is implemented, it will not be a good thing for Amazon or sellers.

So I still hope that Amazon can use the extra money to change the way products are disposed of, reduce the impact on the environment and shut up consumers and the media (rather than putting it in its own pocket).

Of course, it is best to digest the inventory and avoid abandoning it. I have prepared a skill package for digesting unsalable inventory for everyone. You can get it by completing the following small survey~

Finally, do a little survey

There are always newcomers who come to consult me about some basic questions. Even many small and medium-sized sellers feel that their current sales bottleneck is because they have not laid a solid foundation and want to consolidate it.

I have collected a few knowledge points and listed them in the following list. You can vote for the Amazon knowledge points you want to know. The content of this vote will determine what we will share with you next time~

To thank you for voting, I have compiled a collection of audit appeal skills. Please scan the QR code below to get it from me~
