American consumers prefer low-priced goods, and 48% of young people shop on platforms such as Temu

Recently, Omnisend released a survey report on American consumers. Although American consumers have low trust in Temu, the platform has surpassed competitors such as Shein and TikTok Shop.

The survey shows that 36% of American consumers choose Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Temu for shopping during the holiday season, especially among Generation Z, where 48% of young consumers prefer to shop on Chinese e-commerce platforms.

Data shows that Temu has quickly won the favor of consumers in the US market with its low-price strategy. 23% of respondents said Temu was their first choice, followed by Shein (18.3%), TikTok Shop (11.9%) and AliExpress (7.3%). Although Temu and other Chinese e-commerce platforms are priced very competitively, many American consumers still have low trust in these platforms. According to the survey, 86% of American consumers trust Amazon, while only 6% of consumers trust Temu.

The survey further showed that 40% of Americans expect to spend less on holiday gifts this year, especially Generation Z, and turning to Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Temu has become a way for them to save money. At the same time, the survey also found that there is an overlap in the consumer groups of these platforms, with 28% of Shein shoppers also buying goods from TikTok Shop, and a quarter of Temu users also buying goods from TikTok Shop at the same time.

These trends reflect the increasing demand for low-priced goods among consumers, especially in the context of greater economic pressure. Price competition has become an important means for e-commerce platforms to compete for market share. With the rapid development of platforms such as Temu and Shein, traditional e-commerce platforms such as Amazon have also begun to launch low-price areas similar to Amazon Haul to meet the challenges of Chinese e-commerce platforms.
