Recently, Slickdeals released a new survey on the shopping habits of American consumers, and the results showed that consumers mainly shop for themselves during large promotions. 70% of Americans plan to shop during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions. The survey shows that 55% of American consumers said they would participate in Amazon Prime's autumn sale, and 38% would start shopping during the holiday season in early October. On Amazon's autumn sale, 68% of respondents shopped for themselves, while 45% bought goods for their immediate family members. During the Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions, 72% of people chose to shop for themselves, while 49% shopped for their immediate family members. Additionally, 58% of respondents see fall and winter sales as a great opportunity to complete holiday shopping, 46% use these events to buy specific items they’ve been eyeing, 45% snap up the best deals, and 40% focus on shopping for household essentials. In terms of spending categories, 63% of respondents plan to buy clothing and shoes, 50% plan to buy groceries, and 40% plan to buy technology electronics, personal care products and toys. Although 46% of respondents said inflation will have an impact on fall and winter shopping, 49% said their holiday shopping budgets will remain the same as last year, 29% plan to spend more than last year and 22% plan to spend less. The survey also revealed the main concerns about this year's fall and winter promotions: crowded stores (37%), limited product availability (35%), not being able to find the right gift (35%), shipping delays (32%) and overspending (31%). Against the backdrop of a challenging economic environment, 85% of respondents said they would be "very price-conscious" or "fairly price-conscious" when making holiday purchases, and 62% of global shoppers plan to spend less than $1,000 during the holiday season, up 13% from last year. Young consumers, especially Generation Z, are driving a shift in shopping methods toward mobile devices and social media. The survey shows that 67% of people aged 18 to 24 and 65% of people aged 25 to 35 will do holiday shopping on their mobile phones, and nearly half of consumers will buy gifts through social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
