Walmart to boost pet services as pet industry booms

It is learned that recently, Walmart announced that it will expand its pet care services and plans to open new pet service centers in multiple cities to enhance consumers' pet service experience.

It is understood that Walmart plans to expand its online veterinary care, grooming services, pet prescription delivery and food supply services. The pet industry remains one of the most promising categories in the retail industry, and the annual spending growth rate of the pet industry is expected to reach 7% by 2030. By 2026, household spending per pet is expected to reach US$1,445. At the same time, veterinary services have become the second largest pet spending category after consumables, and as pet owners pay more and more attention to the health of their pets, veterinary services will continue to grow.

Not only that, Walmart will also open new pet service centers in five cities, including Cumming and Alpharetta, Georgia, and Chandler, Glendale and Mesa, Arizona. In addition, Walmart will also cooperate with Pawp on October 18 to officially launch Walmart+ membership benefits, providing free 24-hour access to Pawp's veterinary team.

Research shows that even in times of financial constraints, consumers are reluctant to reduce their spending on pet products. The survey shows that 47% of shoppers choose to buy groceries from cheaper merchants due to inflation. 33% of consumers have reduced their spending on personal care products and 32% have reduced their spending on snacks, while only 19% of shoppers said they have reduced their spending on pet food and pet supplies.
