Breaking news! Two more countries will have to pay VAT

European tax compliance has never stopped, and another new Amazon site has been asked to provide a VAT number. This time it is: Amazon Austria

Austria's domestic market is relatively small, with a population of more than 8 million and limited consumer market capacity. However, Austria has good infrastructure and is an important transportation hub in Europe. It has a vast surrounding market, especially a strong radiation capacity to the Central and Eastern European market, and mainly produces mid- to high-end products.

The price level in Austria is above the European average, but in the middle of Western European countries. According to Eurostat, the cost of living in Austria is 1.4% higher than the average for all EU countries.

At present, many sellers have received emails from Amazon:

The email shows that sellers need to upload the Austrian VAT registration number before December 31, 2020, otherwise their sales rights in Austria will be suspended.

1. Which sellers need to register for an Austrian tax number? You need to apply if you meet one of the following conditions:

① The company is established in Austria and its annual sales of taxable goods exceed 30,000 euros;

② The company is established outside Austria and stores the goods in Austria for sale to buyers;

③ Remote sales of goods from other EU countries to Austrian buyers, where these sales exceeded EUR 35,000 in the current or previous year.

2. Austrian VAT rate:

The standard VAT rate in Austria is 20%. However, during the pandemic (July 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020), the Austrian government has granted certain exemptions to help companies tide over the difficulties. So now is a good time to register for Austrian VAT!

To support businesses and consumers during the pandemic, Austria has lowered the VAT rates on some goods and services:

3. Registration information

①Austria VAT Application Service Information Form

②Business license (translated into English)

③ Legal person’s ID card/passport (translated into English, passport is recommended)

④Tax payment certificate (translated into English)

⑤ Authorization document (signature of legal person)

4. Number of declarations:

Monthly report + annual report, 13 times

Quarterly report + annual report, 5 times

5. Application period:

For example, the declaration for the first quarter should be submitted before May 15th.

Annual reports should be submitted by June 30 of the following year.

The trend of EU tax compliance has already taken shape. Sellers who have met the registration requirements but have not yet registered for tax numbers in other EU countries can prepare in advance to avoid being in a rush when the new policy is forcibly implemented.

This country also has to pay VAT

This round of VAT tax storm has also spread to South America, and now even Chile has to start uploading VAT tax numbers.

Amazon recently announced that it will collect VAT in Chile starting August 1. Unless the seller registers and provides a Chilean VAT ID, Amazon will collect VAT at the standard rate. It is reported that the standard VAT rate in Chile is 19%.

Amazon's announcement on collecting VAT in Chile is as follows:

To provide Amazon with your Chilean VAT ID, please do the following:

1. Log in to Seller Center.

2. Under [Settings], click [Account Information].

3. Under Tax Information, click VAT Information.

4. From the list of countries, select Chile.

5. Enter the 9-digit Chilean VAT, for example 'XX.XXX.XXX-X'.

6. Click [I accept and confirm all conditions listed in the tax registration agreement].

7. Click Save.

Tax compliance is the general trend. Sellers should register for VAT as early as possible to avoid the risk of being blocked.
