New study: More American consumers are willing to buy high-priced goods online

It is learned that on May 21, according to foreign media reports, more and more American consumers are willing to buy products online, including expensive large items.

According to a survey by digital marketing agency Adtaxi, American consumers are more willing than ever to buy high-ticket items online, such as housing (56%, 49% in 2023), cars (58%, 53% in 2023), and large appliances (78%, 73% in 2023). At the same time, only 19% of consumers are reluctant to buy daily necessities online, compared with 42% in 2017.

Currently, 93% of American adults shop online, of which 26% shop online every day (24% in 2023) and 43% shop online weekly (40% in 2023).

The increase in consumers' willingness to buy products online is reflected in sales. According to Adobe data, US e-commerce spending increased 7% year-on-year to $331.6 billion from January 1 to April 30. It is expected to exceed $500 billion in the first half of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%.

In addition, the survey found that free delivery is still the primary factor affecting purchase decisions, accounting for 27%. Other major factors include product reviews (21%) and product search richness (15%). In terms of category preferences, clothing and fashion products are still the most popular online shopping products, accounting for 56%. It is followed by beauty and personal care products (50%), groceries (48%), household items (48%) and mattresses (11%).
