SD card turns into SSD in seconds? Walmart seller was exposed for selling fake products, and the products involved have been removed from shelves

It is learned that recently, a third-party seller at Walmart sold a solid-state drive (SSD) for $17.99, which was found to be made of two SD cards. The product claims to have a capacity of up to 30TB. But in fact, an SSD with only 1TB of storage capacity costs $50 to $100.

Cybersecurity researcher RayRedacted said he had seen similar products on AliExpress, but he thought they were so cheap that they might be fake, so he bought the product at Walmart. After receiving the product, Ray found that although the product looked similar in size to an SSD, when he opened it, it was actually a circuit board with two small SD cards glued to it.

After plugging it into the computer, Windows File Explorer showed that it was two 15TB drives, but it didn't work at all when used. Ray discovered that this was a fake seller who programmed the drive to make Windows think it had a larger capacity, when the actual capacity might only be 512GB or 1TB.

Ray exposed this counterfeit sales model on Twitter, which subsequently sparked heated discussions. After the relevant media contacted Walmart, the Walmart platform deleted the product.

Ray wasn't the only one who found the hard drive suspicious, judging by the comments left on Walmart's website, which included: "Don't buy this, it's a scam."

Another review read: "I bought an 8TB SSD drive for $28 and this piece of garbage does not work in any way, shape or form. This product is a scam and Walmart should be ashamed of themselves for selling them."

Walmart has also been accused by buyers of selling counterfeit products despite the obvious scam. Some users commented on Ray's post: "Walmart's third-party seller scams are not the platform's fault. The platform's fault is that it does not have the tools to review their third-party products."
