Father's Day Spoiler! These changes have taken place in American consumer demand

It is learned that according to the latest survey of the National Retail Federation (NRF), high inflation continues to affect consumers' shopping behavior, and consumer demand for Father's Day this year will also change.

NRF said it expects Father's Day consumer spending to be the same or slightly lower than in 2021 due to inflation concerns. About 64% of consumers reported seeing higher prices when choosing Father's Day gifts this year.

The NRF said in a statement that 76% of U.S. adults are expected to celebrate Father's Day (June 19) this year. Consumer spending is expected to reach $20 billion, compared with last year's record $20.1 billion, according to the Washington, D.C.-based trade group and its research partner Prosper Insights & Analytics.

“Despite growing concerns about inflation, consumers plan to spend roughly the same as last year on Father’s Day celebrations,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement. “Consumers will also prioritize gifts that are unique and meaningful.”

Many brands are also preparing for this festival. Marco Tedeschi, founder and creative director of Kross Studio, said that for Father's Day, Kross Studio's watchmakers are making limited edition gifts featuring some of dad's favorite movie characters.

US lifestyle brand Shinola is promoting its Father's Day gift ideas through email and online campaigns, featuring watches and highlighting its leather goods and accessories.

The NRF survey found that most consumers said they want to find gifts that are unique or create special memories, and they want retailers to recommend the best gifts.

Additionally, 40% of consumers plan to buy Father's Day gifts online, while 34% plan to shop at department stores. Other options are specialty stores, such as greeting card or gift shops, electronics stores and discount stores.

By comparison, the NRF predicts Mother's Day spending will exceed $31.7 billion, which would be a $25 increase from previous years.
