US grocery giant Kroger will build its own logistics to improve e-commerce delivery efficiency

It is learned that on April 20, American grocery giant Kroger announced that it is recruiting more than 200 new employees to prepare for the launch of Kroger Delivery service in South Florida. The new recruitment positions include drivers, logistics business professionals, etc.

The move marks a change in strategy for Kroger, which until now has relied heavily on Instacart to drive its e-commerce delivery business. Of course, there are benefits for grocers to bring delivery operations in-house, such as having more control and retaining a full share of profits.

An August study conducted by PYMNTS in partnership with ACI Worldwide found that 23% of consumers buy groceries online. Even as consumers begin to return to pre-pandemic habits, online grocery sales continue to grow.

Data shows that 18% of consumers buy groceries through online channels more frequently than in stores, and many expect this share to increase in the coming years.

There has been a lot of growth and investment in the online grocery space since the pandemic began. At the beginning of the pandemic, buying groceries online saw a wave of early adopters and became a necessity after the lockdown.
