According to DHL's air cargo industry status report, North America's demand for cross-border procurement remains very strong, and its import volume is mainly driven by e-commerce, automobiles, technology, fashion and other markets. With the launch of new technology products at the end of this quarter, DHL's air freight business will gradually recover and remain strong. According to the report, the rates in 2021 have increased by 126% compared to 2019. The company’s rates have remained high compared to previous years.
DHL's air cargo volumes increased 15% year-on-year in November 2021. December 2021 rates are 134% above the 2019 baseline and 33% above the 2020 baseline, with supply and demand imbalances expected to continue.
Affected by the pandemic and supply chain constraints, the company's overall capacity has been slow to recover, with a 15% drop in January 2022 compared to the same period in 2019. Belly capacity has improved slightly, but is still 25% below pre-pandemic levels. The reduction in capacity for flexible freight volumes has led to high load factors in all regions.
