Demand for fashion and beauty products in the United States is "rejuvenating"! Sales will peak in December

According to a survey by NPD Group, in addition to buying gifts for others, American consumers are also preparing to add "outfits" to themselves. 51% of consumers plan to buy gifts for themselves during the holidays, with fashion and beauty categories accounting for the majority.


The survey shows that among consumers who plan to buy gifts for themselves, 35% are expected to buy clothing, followed by accessories and beauty and footwear products (31%). The survey also shows that as of last week, nearly a quarter of holiday shoppers had not yet started shopping, which means there is a large room for market growth.


In the beauty industry, fragrance sales in December will account for more than 60% of the category’s fourth-quarter revenue, according to NPD Sales Analytics data. Revenue during the Christmas week can increase anywhere from 25% to more than 100% over the previous week.


When it comes to handbags and fashion footwear, sales usually peak in the week before Christmas (i.e. Super Saturday week). Over the past two years, the last two weeks of December have been the best performing weeks of the year in terms of year-on-year growth.


“Consumers engaged in more social activities this holiday season than last year and expect to resume more pre-pandemic activities, including travel and partying, in 2022,” said Beth Goldstein, NPD fashion footwear and accessories analyst.
