ThredUp invests $70 million to build its largest warehouse yet, with storage capacity of up to 10 million items!

It is learned that ThredUp, the American second-hand e-commerce giant, is expanding its scale to meet the rapidly growing demand for resale products in the United States. It is not only expanding its business in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, but also investing US$70 million in Lancaster, Texas to improve its supply chain facilities and open a nearly 600,000 square foot distribution center. This is also the largest and most automated distribution center opened by ThredUp to date.

The Lancaster distribution center is ThredUp's first four-story center and will store up to 10 million items when completed. It is expected to start processing products at the new distribution center in the second quarter of 2022, with an initial capacity of 500,000 items. This will more than double ThredUp's sales capacity, creating sales of 16.5 million items.

ThredUp also plans to use the new facility to further expand its operating platform in the face of growing demand for second-hand clothing and accessories. According to ThredUp's 2021 Resale Report, 52.6 million Americans chose to resell clothing in 2020, and 76% of Americans who had never resold clothing said they were willing to choose second-hand clothing.

ThredUp has also partnered with other retailers. In addition, Walmart's e-commerce website also has a ThredUp section, which provides nearly 750,000 second-hand items for American buyers, including women's and children's clothing, accessories, shoes and handbags.

Walmart said: "The partnership with ThredUp is part of Walmart's broader fashion strategy to expand product assortment and become a fashion destination for shoppers, especially millennials. Madewell also recently partnered with ThredUp.

ThredUp, which is headquartered in Oakland, California, with offices in Scottsdale, Arizona, New York, and Ukraine, says it has processed more than 125 million unique second-hand items from 35,000 brands across 100 categories.
