Amazon recently announced that it has transported more than 140,000 pieces of relief supplies from its disaster relief center to help Save the Children cope with the devastation caused by Hurricane Idai.
It is reported that Hurricane Ida made landfall on the Louisiana coastline on August 29 as a Category 4 storm with wind speeds of up to 150 miles per hour, causing power outages to more than 1 million homes and businesses.
Less than 72 hours after Idai hit the region, Amazon had already loaded trucks with relief supplies, including water, hygiene products, and child supplies, among other needed items, and they have now been delivered to Save the Children, which will distribute the relief items directly to the people in the affected areas.
Earlier this year, Amazon officially opened its Disaster Relief Center, which leverages Amazon’s vast operations, technology, and global logistics network to provide fast and effective support for global operations to combat large-scale natural disasters.
Amazon customers can now donate through its website and to humanitarian relief organizations. In addition, they can use their Alexa-enabled devices to say, "Alexa, I want to donate to Hurricane Idai relief."
