Steven Melnyk, a professor of supply chain and operations management at Michigan State University, said that this Christmas, the price of goods will rise and there will be no "blowout" sales. In addition, although major retail companies such as Walmart and Target are vigorously expanding their shipping capacity, these are far from alleviating the shortage of overseas manufacturing and the US labor force.

According to the survey, many commodities are currently affected by order delays and supply shortages, including back-to-school supplies, bicycles, pet food, paint, furniture, cars, technology gadgets, children's toys, household appliances, wood, any products that rely on semiconductor chips, and even coveted fast food staples such as chicken wings, ketchup packets, McDonald's milkshakes (in the UK, for now), etc.

Given the uncertainty of whether orders can be delivered on time, many consumers have begun to turn to physical stores for shopping.
