Sellers Notice! New Shopping Trends of American Consumers!

It is learned that according to research by credit card company Barclaycard, American consumers are increasing their shopping levels. Compared with spending levels in 2019, overall consumer spending in 2021 increased by 11.6%, of which entertainment spending increased by about 8%, fuel spending increased by about 4%, and airline, hotel and travel spending decreased.


According to Barclaycard, the shopping habits of American consumers have changed compared to before the epidemic. First of all, offline consumers will go to the store to buy later, with the peak purchase period between 11 am and 9 pm. The shopping habits of online shoppers are specifically manifested in the following aspects: the number of shopping websites visited by shoppers has decreased; 76% of shoppers spend 3-5 minutes on the seller's website for the first time; and the time for the first visit to the website has increased.


According to a study by U.S. shopping app Shopkick: 25% of U.S. consumers said they would buy a large number of items before Thanksgiving, and this year's consumer spending will be similar to last year; 61% plan to shop on Black Friday; 67% plan to shop on Cyber ​​Monday; 78% of Black Friday shoppers will shop online, of which 36% will shop on mobile phones; 43% said most will shop in physical stores; and 57% will shop on Amazon.


Dave Fisch, general manager of Shopkick, said that American consumers will spend a lot during the holidays, and retailers must prepare for the holidays in advance and comprehensively improve their omni-channel sales and e-commerce business capabilities to provide consumers with a better holiday shopping experience.
