What is Typeform? Typeform Review

Typeform is a company that makes online questionnaires. It has created a more dynamic and interactive user survey tool that only asks one question at a time and presents the next question based on the user's answer. Typeform officially calls this form a "conversational questionnaire", which can be applied to scenarios such as personal work intention surveys, shopping statistics, and online course feedback.

Background

Typeform's two co-founders, Muñoz and David Okuniev, are both former UI designers (also known as user researchers). Like many other great creations, the founders were not satisfied with the services provided by existing products, so they decided to develop a new product themselves.

In 2011, they were running their own company. At that time, the client asked Muñoz and David Okuniev to provide more comprehensive user data to determine the future direction of the company. However, the two of them looked around the market and found no suitable form to meet the user's needs. Because these questionnaires were thrown to users without any consideration. "We found that it was difficult for users to concentrate on completing the questionnaire at one time." Okuniev said helplessly. It is reported that the completion rate of this kind of questionnaire is about 10%-15%.

In 2012, the two created a more dynamic and interactive user survey tool, which only asks one question at a time and presents the next question to the user based on the user's answer, just like a conversation with a friend, allowing users to complete the questionnaire without realizing it. Typeform officially calls this form a "conversational questionnaire survey." The questionnaire has a wide range of usage scenarios, including personal work willingness surveys, shopping statistics, online course feedback, etc. In addition, Typeform gives users a lot of autonomy. Users can not only customize the interface of the questionnaire (background color, text style, progress bar, etc.), but also use programming to define what question should be presented next after the user answers this question.

Logo Changes

In March 2018, Typeform completed the upgrade and transformation of its brand image system. The platform was completely revamped. The new Typeform is easier and more intuitive, and allows users to quickly create questionnaires. The user experience is as simple as writing an email or a Word document.

The new logo was designed by DesignStudio. Its biggest feature is that the main graphic of the new logo is based on a circle and changes irregularly in real time. This reflects that the platform focuses on acquiring different types of data and providing personalized interactive dialogue.

Data breach incidents

In July 2018, Typeform posted a notice about a data breach on its website, saying that its IT team discovered that an unknown third party had accessed the Typeform server and downloaded certain information on June 27. Due to this hacking incident, the data of some users may have been leaked.

The company said the leak was caused by a security flaw. After discovering the problem, they fixed it within half an hour. The attacker managed to download a backup file dated May 3 from its server, which contained the name, email address and other information submitted by its users when they created the questionnaire. The company also emphasized that the data collected after May 3, as well as payment information and passwords, were not affected.
