The Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Finance of Singapore. It is a commercial entity and the national accounting regulator of Singapore. It is responsible for promoting the development of business entities and the role of the public accounting industry. Overview

ACRA is the regulator for business registration, financial reporting, public accountants and corporate service providers.

Responsibilities

Monitoring of corporate compliance with disclosure requirements and regulation of statutory audits by public accountants.

  • administering the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority Act (Cap 2A), the Accountants Act (Cap 2), the Business Names Registration Act 2014 (No. 29 of 2014), the Companies Act (Cap 50), the Limited Liability Partnerships Act (Cap 163A), the Limited Partnerships Act (Cap 163B) and the Variable Capital Companies Act 2018 (No. 44 of 2018);

  • Report and make recommendations to the government on matters relating to the registration and regulation of business entities, public accountants and corporate service providers, and provide advice to the government;

  • Establish and manage a repository of documents and information relating to business entities, public accountants, and corporate service providers and provide public access to such documents and information;

  • Representing governments internationally in matters relating to the registration and regulation of business entities, public accountants, and corporate service providers; and

  • To increase public awareness of new business structures, compliance requirements, corporate governance practices and any matters within the Authority’s purview.

ACRA was formed as a statutory board on April 1, 2004 following the merger of the then Registrar of Companies and Businesses (RCB) and the Public Accountants Board (PAB).
