Platform Introduction

Awok positions itself as an affordable e-commerce platform, with its target customer groups being migrant workers and housewives who value cost-effectiveness, and its main source of goods being China. It is precisely because of its "low-price" strategy that Awok has quickly become the leading online shopping platform in the UAE, attracting about 10 million visitors per month and providing users with 300,000 affordable products such as fashion accessories, kitchenware, electronics and beauty.

Founder Introduction

AWOK founder Ulugbek Yuldashev is a Kyrgyz native who owned a wholesale and retail company in Kyrgyzstan before coming to Dubai. He came to Dubai in 2006 and has been working in the retail industry ever since.

Founded in 2013, Ulugbek Yuldashev started the company with $30,000 of his life savings and just three employees.

Financing

In April 2019, Awok.com announced the completion of its first round of external financing since its inception. The $30 million Series A financing was jointly led by Middle Eastern investment company StonePine ACE Partners (a joint venture between StonePine Capital Partners and ACE & Company SA) and Al-Faisaliah Ventures, the latter of which is the newly established CVC venture capital institution of Saudi Arabian enterprise Al Faisaliah. In addition, investment company Endeavor Catalyst also participated in this round of financing. This financing will help strengthen Awok's team, including attracting global talents, providing customer experience levels and after-sales support.

In September 2020, Awok.com, an e-commerce platform headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, was closed. The global Covid-19 pandemic may have been the fuse that led to its ultimate demise.
