Kilimall's business model is similar to that of Tmall and JD.com, but it is not self-operated. Instead, it accepts third-party merchants to settle in. It has end-to-end logistics services and international payment functions. It also has an operation team and service system including African local brand marketing, local warehousing and logistics, and local after-sales customer service. It provides Chinese sellers with one-stop comprehensive services such as cross-border business and overseas warehousing. As of December 2016, Kilimall has offices in three African countries, covering nearly 10 surrounding countries.

Origin of the name

There is a highest peak in Africa called Kilimanjaro, and the name of Kilimall comes from it. Its founder hopes to become the number one e-commerce company in Africa.

history

Yang Tao founded Kilimall in Kenya in July 2014. At the beginning, it was mainly based on local operations and investment promotion, gathering local African merchants to sell products to C-end consumers and small B-end users. After the transaction was successful, the platform would collect commissions. After users got used to buying local products on Kilimall, in April 2015, overseas shopping was introduced to connect the needs of African people and Chinese suppliers.

In December 2016, due to the success in markets such as Kenya and Uganda, the Nigerian site was launched.

Financing

In September 2017, e-commerce platform Kilimall completed a US$10 million Series A financing.
