Made in China is under fire again, with all products removed from Amazon shelves
Recently, Amazon has removed some Chinese-made products again. This time the problem is no longer because of the Indian flag, but because of the Sri Lankan flag.

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 12 called for an investigation into the sale of Chinese-made doormats printed with the country's flag, according to foreign media reports.

Besides taking the matter to the Chinese embassy in Colombo, foreign ministry officials also asked the country's mission in Beijing to track down the manufacturer and sellers of such products to beware.

Upon learning of the incident, the Chinese Embassy said in a statement last Friday:

"China's consistent position is that the national flag is a symbol of a country and must be fully respected. The Embassy is aware of concerns raised about the inappropriate advertising of the Sri Lankan flag on Amazon and has referred them to the relevant Chinese authorities for investigation and will take appropriate measures if necessary."

Because the country is highly sensitive about the misuse of the national flag and Buddhist symbols.

The incident originated from the fact that Sri Lanka lodged a formal protest to Amazon a few days ago, asking the retail giant to remove clothing and doormats printed with the country's flag from its locations.

However, a search on Amazon after the protest still returned results showing that many retailers were still selling doormats with the Sri Lankan flag, as well as the flags of several other countries including China, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The global online retailer is also understood to be selling thousands of similar products with different national flags produced by sellers in different countries.

On Amazon, these non-slip doormats cost between $10 and $24, while the flag-printed briefs and bikinis are priced between $9.20 and $17.30, both of which are not cheap.

It was not until March 13 that the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement:

In the letter, the embassy requested the company selling the product on Amazon to immediately stop selling the doormat and any such products and stop misusing the Sri Lankan flag.

The products were then completely removed from Amazon.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added:

The Embassy is closely monitoring the matter and will take appropriate action through the relevant Chinese authorities to stop the production and sale of any products bearing the image of the Sri Lankan flag.

The Chinese Embassy stressed:

For decades, China, as an all-weather friend and closest partner, has been respecting and supporting Sri Lanka's peace, prosperity and dignity, both in bilateral fields and in international forums.

Therefore, sellers who continue to sell this type of product should be careful, as the country has begun an investigation. This product, which can be said to be a banned item, must be remembered not to touch it again in the future.

Finally, I will inform everyone in our group as soon as there is the latest news related to cross-border e-commerce . During this special period, we must get the latest news quickly and accurately.
