Big news of the week! Amazon's French warehouse closure will be extended to at least April 22

1. Amazon deploys infrared thermal imaging cameras in warehouses to control the spread of the epidemic

On April 20, it was reported that an Amazon employee revealed that Amazon is beginning to deploy thermal imagers in warehouses to screen workers' body temperatures more quickly and identify those who are running a fever.

Amazon employees said on social media that thermal imaging cameras have been installed in at least six Amazon warehouses in Los Angeles and Seattle. After the thermal imaging camera determines that an employee has an abnormal body temperature, the company will use a thermometer for a second check. In addition, an Amazon employee note shows that thermal imaging cameras will also be used at the entrance of Amazon Whole Foods stores.

2. Amazon's French warehouse closure will be extended to at least April 22

On April 20, it was reported that Amazon said on Sunday that it would extend the closure of six French warehouses until at least April 22.

Last week, a French court reportedly ordered the company to deliver only basic necessities such as groceries and medicine and conduct thorough safety checks to reduce the risk of the spread of the epidemic.

Subsequently, Amazon temporarily closed six warehouses in the country, saying that the definition of so-called daily necessities was unclear and the company could not risk being punished to continue operating. In addition, the company also said it had appealed to the court.

3. Amazon US announced that more products will meet the requirements for creating shipments starting April 18

Amazon US has released an update on products that are eligible for shipment creation. Starting April 18, 2020, more products will be eligible for shipment creation. Amazon will continue to focus its efforts on delivering products that customers need most. Although more products can now be sent to fulfillment centers, the replenishment quantity of some of these products will be limited.

Merchants can view which products meet the requirements for creating shipments on the "Replenish Inventory" page and "Replenishment Report". Products that meet the requirements and have quantity restrictions will be marked with "Limited Replenishment".

4. An important port terminal in the eastern United States is closed

According to the latest report from splash, the Port of Virginia, one of the largest ports on the East Coast of the United States, has suspended operations.

From May 4, the port's Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) will be closed, while truck gate opening hours at other terminals will be reduced.

The Port of Virginia is the deepest harbor on the East Coast of the United States - it houses the world's largest naval base and is home to a strong shipbuilding and repair industry.

The export coal trade is booming and it is the sixth largest container cargo port in the United States and the only East Coast port with congressional authorization.

5. The UK approves Amazon's $575 million investment in Deliveroo!

Tencent Technology News, April 18, according to foreign media reports, the UK regulator Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) recently announced that it has temporarily approved Amazon's financing transaction for food delivery startup Deliveroo. The agency said that the decision was made because the new coronavirus outbreak caused Deliveroo's financial situation to "deteriorate."

Stuart McIntosh, chair of the CMA's independent investigation panel, said in a statement: "Without additional investment, it is clear that Deliveroo will not be able to meet its financial commitments and will have to exit the market. This could mean that many customers are completely unable to use the food delivery service, while others face higher prices or a reduction in the quality of service. Faced with this stark outcome, we believe the best course of action is to temporarily approve Amazon's investment in Deliveroo."

6. The Canton Fair will be held online from June 15 to 24, and Tencent will be the designated technology service provider

It is understood that this Canton Fair will be held online from June 15 to 24 for a period of 10 days. It is reported that this Canton Fair will present three interactive sections, integrating exhibition docking, negotiation and transaction, and creating an efficient online experience for exhibitors and buyers at home and abroad.
