FedEx to launch new route to Mexico to boost e-commerce

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, FedEx announced that it will open more routes in Mexico to meet the country's growing e-commerce demand.

Mexico has become a major region for FedEx Express, and is one of the top five countries for FedEx Express in terms of volume, infrastructure and international services (out of the 200 countries it currently operates in). Last year, FedEx launched flights from Tijuana to San Diego and Merida to Miami, and will expand routes to other parts of Mexico.

Currently, FedEx's main air hub in Mexico is located in Toluca, covering an area of more than 32,000 square meters, through which products are shipped to 12 states across the country. At the same time, FedEx has about 3,000 transport vehicles, 87 service stations, two distribution centers (one air transportation center and one land transportation center) and a logistics center for e-commerce.

Jorge Torres, president of FedEx Mexico, said that through foreign trade, FedEx performed well in the first quarter of 2024. FedEx saw increased demand outside the northern border area, especially the growing economic activity in central and southern Mexico.

Currently, more and more Mexican consumers want online shopping packages to be delivered as quickly as possible and to be delivered to their doorsteps. This sentiment is even stronger during the peak season. For example, according to the 2023 forecast, transportation demand during Mexico's peak season will increase by 25% compared to 2022.
