Expanding e-commerce logistics services! FedEx helps Guangzhou become an international freight hub!

FedEx Express, a US-based courier service company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Guangzhou municipal government to cooperate in customs clearance, cross-border e-commerce and establish an operations center in southern China, according to a company statement.

The two parties will jointly promote FedEx business in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, expand e-commerce logistics services, and support Guangzhou's development into an international freight hub.

“We are actively strengthening our collaboration with local governments and partners to more effectively connect Chinese companies to global markets and contribute to increasing imports and exports from China,” said Eddy Chan, senior vice president and president of FedEx Express China.

"Through the strategic cooperation with the Guangzhou municipal government, FedEx will be able to better meet customer needs, improve customs clearance efficiency, connect our customers in Guangzhou and South China to the global market more efficiently, and further promote the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and cross-border e-commerce," Chen said.

Increase in foreign trade

Guangzhou's foreign trade grew 1.1% year-on-year in 2022, totaling 1.09 trillion yuan (US$156.44 billion), accounting for 13.2% of Guangdong's imports and exports.

After becoming a pilot city for cross-border e-commerce in 2013, Guangzhou's industry scale reached 137.59 billion yuan last year, compared with 1.46 billion yuan in 2014.

FedEx Express' Asia Pacific hub is located at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. As a major hub in the Asia Pacific region, the facility currently operates more than 210 international flights per week.

Last year, FedEx launched an AI-powered sorting robot at its South China e-commerce shipment sorting center in Guangzhou to handle the growing volume of e-commerce-related shipments.

It is understood that the statement said that as the global economy accelerates its recovery, FedEx will continue to invest in building new facilities and expanding its network to connect Chinese customers with the world.
