Walmart said on Wednesday it will build two large automated warehouses in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas, creating about 1,000 technical jobs.
It is reported that one of them is an automated e-commerce distribution center covering an area of 1.5 million square feet and will open in 2023. The other is a 730,000 square foot grocery distribution center, which is expected to open in 2024. These two large warehouses will become one of the largest high-tech distribution centers in Walmart's supply chain.
The company said about 40% of the new jobs will require science, technology and math skills, and with well-trained workers, the centers will be able to operate more than twice as efficiently as traditional distribution centers.
The two facilities are part of Walmart’s July commitment to automate 25 regional warehouses across the U.S. The facilities will support Walmart’s expanding micro-distribution network of stores.
