UPS recently announced the acquisition of Roadie, a same-day delivery company in the United States. The acquisition aims to provide efficient and fast same-day delivery services across the country. The two companies did not disclose the specific transaction amount, and the transaction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
It is reported that many large companies, including UPS, are seeking local same-day delivery services for various types of goods in addition to traditional packages.
Roadie, which says it has 200,000 verified drivers on its site, serves more than 20,000 ZIP codes. The platform works similarly to Uber or Lyft, but it crowdsources drivers to deliver packages and goods.
In addition, Roadie will continue to operate under its name. UPS drivers will continue to deliver packages within the UPS network, and there will be no overlap between the two networks.
In a separate announcement, UPS said it plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers to support the company's peak shipping season, and the company said many applicants received offers within 30 minutes of applying.
