It is learned that FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx, recently launched a new artificial intelligence robot system (RPSi). The system can autonomously pick, identify, sort, collect and ship small packages on a large scale. In addition, it can also handle various conventional packages, including individual plastic bags, packaging tubes, padded envelopes, etc.
It is reported that the system is developed in cooperation with Berkshire Grey, a developer of intelligent enterprise robotic solutions. FedEx Ground will pilot the system at a station in Queens, New York, and plans to expand it to Las Vegas and Ohio in the coming months.
Berkshire Grey senior vice president Jessica said the system can solve a core challenge in the traditional package sorting process: the need to manually adjust the package label so that it can be scanned correctly. Using their patented HyperScanner optical recognition module, barcodes can be read from any angle in milliseconds, all without human intervention.
FedEx said the implementation of the new system has greatly improved safety, efficiency and productivity, and met the growing needs of e-commerce business.
