New policy?! Amazon has released new verification information!

Amazon recently announced a new policy requiring all sellers to verify their emergency contact information, mainly email addresses and phone numbers. The purpose is to maintain eligibility for the account health assurance program, enable sellers to obtain timely support from account health experts, and protect the business from potential account disruptions.

Amazon requires sellers to verify 'emergency contact information'

In the past few days, a large number of Amazon sellers have received the following emails:

Amazon’s email pointed out that verifying emergency contact information is critical to sellers’ account security and business operations, mainly related to the following three aspects:

1. Maintain account health guarantee program eligibility : This is a necessary condition for participating in the program, which provides sellers with additional account protection and priority support to help sellers resolve issues quickly.

2. Get timely support from account health experts : After phone verification, Amazon account health experts can communicate more efficiently and provide support and solutions in a timely manner, helping sellers respond to account issues quickly and reduce business losses.

3. Protect your business from potential account disruptions : Verifying emergency contact numbers can prevent account disruption risks, effectively prevent business disruptions caused by account security issues, and ensure normal operations for sellers.

The Amazon announcement also mentioned that the verification process was officially launched on January 24.

Some sellers have raised questions about the new policy. For example, some sellers questioned why Amazon started the verification process on January 24 but did not release the announcement until January 30.

Because it was during the Spring Festival, many sellers were caught off guard. One seller said: "It started on January 24th and was not released until January 30th. Typical Amazon efficiency." In addition, some sellers asked how to complete the verification if their work phone is a landline.

It is reported that Amazon only notified the sellers via email this time, and there is no relevant display in the backend performance. Some sellers opened a case to consult customer service, but were told not to care. However, for the sake of insurance, many sellers still choose to verify.

Amazon Emergency Contact Information Verification Steps

Emergency contact information verification mainly verifies the emergency contact's phone number and email address.

  • Verify the emergency contact email address : Sellers need to ensure that the emergency contact email address filled in the Amazon account is valid and can receive emails normally. Usually, verification may be performed by sending a verification link or verification code to the email address.

  • Verify the emergency contact number : Sellers log in to the Seller Center, access "Notification Preferences", follow the prompts to complete the verification of the emergency contact number, and complete the verification process using a one-time password.

Notice:

- This is usually done via a one-time password (OTP)
- It is recommended that sellers who have previously filled in their landline numbers or whose numbers have been cancelled should update them.
- If verification is inconvenient or unsuccessful, it is okay to put it on hold for now. The email does not mention the consequences of not verifying.

Beware of phishing emails, backend operations are safer

Sellers should note that they should try not to log in to their accounts through links in text messages or emails. It is best to verify directly through the official website.

From the end of December to now, there have been many cases of Amazon sellers being phished across the border, including a notification email for emergency contact verification. The email will show that your store's emergency contact is missing or invalid, and you need to quickly fill in the information.

Because the email not only lists the setting path, but also requires to reply to this email after the setting is completed, many sellers do it without thinking, and finally the scammers obtain important information such as the store’s registration email, password, and secondary verification code.

In order to ensure the security of your account, when you receive any notification about store performance, don't just look at the information in your mailbox, be sure to check it in the backend! Although the verification process may bring a certain operational burden to sellers, in the long run, this will provide stronger protection for sellers' business operations.
