Kaymu is an e-commerce platform launched by Africa Internet Holding with the support of Germany's Samwer brothers and Rocket Internet. In June 2016, German e-commerce incubator Rocket Internet announced that its e-commerce platform Daraz and Kaymu would merge into a new Daraz Group.

About Kaymu

Kaymu was launched in Nigeria and Pakistan in January 2013, and two years and three months later, it expanded to 32 other countries. Kaymu imitates the eBay model. It does not offer self-operated goods, and each country has a separate website. Before the merger, Kaymu was launched in the following countries and regions: Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia, Asia and the Middle East.

Both Daraz and Kaymu operate in frontier markets in Asia. Daraz is an e-commerce platform similar to Lazada. Kaymu is more of an open e-commerce platform that mainly targets small and medium-sized enterprises. These businesses can list their products freely on the website and take orders directly from customers. Kaymu not only provides express delivery services but also focuses on providing authentic services.

The merged Daraz Group combines the two companies. Operations such as marketing, IT, and business intelligence are concentrated in Karachi, Pakistan. Rocket Internet said that this strategy can create "synergies in terms of performance growth and costs."

According to sources at the time of the merger, in Pakistan and Bangladesh, the two e-commerce sites will continue to operate independently, while in other countries they will be merged under the same brand.
