Amazon sellers YouTube traffic series ②: How to optimize YouTube SEO

YouTube is the world's largest video website, with more than 1 billion active users. It is also the social platform with the highest Internet user satisfaction rating in the world. Many overseas buyers will check YouTube review videos before purchasing a product.

Since YouTube contains such a huge treasure, how can Amazon sellers use it to market products and attract more traffic to their stores? Next, we will use a series of practical articles to let Amazon sellers know how to create a YouTube channel, how to optimize YouTube SEO, and how to run video or channel ads, etc., to bring as much traffic to the store as possible.

In the previous article, we discussed how Amazon sellers can create a YouTube channel. This article will explain in detail how to optimize YouTube SEO and how to improve the ranking of videos.

When it comes to YouTube SEO, it is very important to include your main keywords in your video title, description, and tags, and the keywords in your video title should be targeted specifically for search engines (YouTube and Google) and viewers. Keep in mind that your video title only has 100 characters, but it gets reduced to 70 characters in the search results.

*Tip : Use keywords at the beginning of your title, such as "Onyx Crystal Bracelet Review: What's the benefit of wearing it?". Video descriptions help YouTube and Google understand the context of your video, which helps improve rankings and increases your chances of appearing in recommended videos. Here are 3 good practices to follow when writing video descriptions:

1. Include the main keyword in the first 25 words;

2. You can only use 5,000 characters, so include as much information as possible.

3. Use the main keyword 2-4 times instead of keyword stuffing.

Don’t stuff keywords in your YouTube description. Here’s an example of a bad idea:

When writing your video description, you should first think about the structure, which can be as shown in the figure below.

Below we will introduce 5 important factors for YouTube SEO optimization:

1. Use primary keywords

Sellers should conduct keyword research on Amazon ads and product listings and include these main keywords in the video file name, video title, video description, and backend keyword tags.

*Tip : You can also use the tags of popular videos on YouTube. Here are two ways to find these tags. The first is to find these tags in the video page source. Simply right-click on the video page and click the "View Page Source" button, as shown in the image below:

A bunch of code will appear, so you need to click "Ctrl + F" and type "keywords" to find the keyword tag, as shown below:

The second and easier way is to use the Chrome extension vidIQ. Once installed, you can view the video tags by simply clicking on the video:

2. YouTube video link

There are three ways to insert a Youtube video link in the video details:

  • Youtube video: [insert link]

*Note: Use the long link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORU7S6s33t4 instead of the shorter version https://youtu.be/ORU7S6s33t4 to avoid link redirection. Don't worry about the aesthetics, as YouTube will automatically hide links that are too long.

  • YouTube channel: [insert link]

  • Youtube playlist: [insert link]

Another type of YouTube link you can include in your video details is a link to your competitors or a link to a highly viewed related video. When you reference other valuable videos, the YouTube algorithm rewards you because you keep viewers on YouTube to check out other videos. Here is a template you can use to add a competitor or other related video:

  • Video Title 1: [Insert Link 1]

  • Video Title 2: [Insert Link 2]

  • Video Title 3: [Insert Link 3]

3. YouTube Playlist

Sellers can create YouTube playlists and organize videos accordingly so that viewers can benefit from a list of related videos and save them to "Watch Later". For example, you can create a playlist of "How-To's" for your products and another playlist for upcoming products. The playlist will automatically play every video in the playlist, bringing more exposure to your channel.

4. Links to social media channels

5. Advanced Settings

  • Category: Select the category that best describes your video.

  • Video Location: Include the country or region where your Amazon business is located. For example, if you sell products on Amazon UK, it is highly recommended that you set the location to the UK to get better search results.

  • Video Language: Select the language you want to use in your video.

  • Recording Date: Insert the date the video was recorded.
