The global punctuality rate has dropped significantly. Which shipping company has a higher punctuality rate?

According to a new report from international shipping consultancy Sea-Intelligence, the on-time rate of container ships has dropped to a new low recently and is getting worse .


At a time when freight rates are at record highs, the quality of service received by shippers/cargo owners is declining , and the on-time performance of global container ships has reached an unprecedented low, which may increase tensions between shipping companies and customers.
According to data from Sea-Intelligence, in September this year, the schedule reliability of global container liners dropped to 56%, and the average delay time of global ships was close to 5 days .
Recently, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange released the comprehensive on-time rate index of global trunk routes in September 2020. In September, the comprehensive on-time rate of the world's nine trunk routes was 42.5% , a decrease of 10.29% month-on-month. Among them, the on-time rates of arrival and departure and receipt and shipment were 40.74% and 44.27% respectively, a decrease of 12.12% and 8.47% respectively compared with August.

Judging from the departure/receiving and shipping punctuality index of trunk routes, it is basically on a downward trend compared with the previous period.

In September, the on-time rates of liner companies and liner alliances also showed a significant downward trend.
Only Wan Yang Shipping ranked first in both departure and shipment punctuality, with a slight increase compared with the previous period, while other shipping companies were all in a downward trend.
But even Wan Yang Shipping, which ranks first, has an punctuality rate of only about 60%. That is to say, even the "most punctual" Wan Yang Shipping has nearly 40% of its ships unable to arrive at the port on time .
From September to now, ZIM's service punctuality rate has improved, while the punctuality rate of receiving and shipping has slightly decreased, but the overall situation remains normal.
Although Hamburg Süd experienced a slight decrease in both indicators, overall its on-time performance was good.
It is worth noting that Hyundai Merchant Marine’s on-time rate for arrival and departure services in September was 0 , which means that none of the company’s ships were exceptions in September.
The two indicators of Mediterranean Shipping Company, Yang Ming Marine Transport, Pacific Shipping, Ocean Network Link, Hapag-Lloyd and The Aliance are all below 40, which is also worth considering for sellers.
In terms of port liner punctuality, the ports with the best comprehensive service levels in September were Singapore Port and Shenzhen Port , but they also saw a decline of 7.18% and 2.61% respectively.
It is worth noting that Shanghai Port ranked 20th in terms of on-time rate , with a decrease of 7.47%. In August, Shanghai had become the port with the largest decrease in on-time rate, and in September, the on-time rate of Shanghai Port was only 16.98% , the lowest in China.

At present, Europe is under large-scale "blockade", and the overall logistics situation is relatively severe; fires and riots have occurred one after another in the United States, and delivery is delayed in many places.
Here we would like to remind all sellers to always pay attention to the official website announcements, choose the "freight forwarder" or shipping company based on the overall situation, do not blindly believe in the " promised time limit ", make plans early, and pay attention to risk control.
