500 inventory cap! Just now, Amazon issued a new rule

The day before yesterday (December 10 ), sellers on Amazon’s US site received a notice like this: Christmas season deliveries will stop on December 3 , and restocking should start in January!

They stopped accepting goods from December 3rd and released the notice on December 10th . This wave of outrageous actions by my brother-in-law was criticized by countless sellers.

Amazon customer service was almost overwhelmed by the sellers, and finally confirmed: Goods shipped after December 3 can be signed for, but there will be a long delay in putting them on the shelves. Goods shipped before December 3 will not be affected .

The problem mentioned above is with the seller on the US site . Just when the sellers on other sites thought they had escaped, who would have thought that “it’s not that there is no retribution, it’s just that the time has not come yet”.

FBA inventory in Japan also has problems

Yesterday afternoon, some sellers on Amazon Japan reported that they had received a notification regarding changes to Amazon’s logistics inventory management volume.

(Screenshot of the email provided by the seller)

The main contents of the email are as follows:

As the business is busy at the end of the year, the inventory storage space of FBA warehouses is approaching the upper limit, so we have decided to reset the upper limit of inventory storage. This change will take effect from December 11, 2019. When the inventory reaches the upper limit, sellers will not be able to create new warehousing plans.

Pepe will highlight the key points:

1. Notify and execute on the same day

As you can see, the notice was only issued on December 11th , and it was implemented on the same day. I can only say that my brother-in-law has really learned his lesson this time. After all, the US site received many complaints about the incident the day before yesterday, so now the Japanese site has changed its tactics and introduced a restriction policy, and it will be implemented on the same day, leaving you no chance to complain . Brother-in-law, you are really something.

2. Inventory limit: 500

As you can see from the email above, the upper limit of the inventory that the FBA warehouse can help sellers store is as follows:

Standard product inventory limit: 500
Maximum inventory quantity for large items: 259

However, a seller on the Japanese site reported that his inventory limit is different from the seller above:

Another seller said that everyone is different:

Based on the above situation, Pepe speculates that the upper limit of the inventory in the Japanese warehouse is set by Amazon based on the store operations of each seller , and Amazon's official statement is based on the inventory on December 11, 2019, and the upper limit will also be allocated based on the specific situation of the seller's store. However, at present, everyone is around 500 .

The upper limit of inventory is just over 500, which is probably not enough even for small sellers who receive a few orders a day , let alone those big sellers who receive tens of thousands of orders!

The inventory cap set by the Japanese site is a nightmare for sellers (sellers with 0 orders ignore what I said), because Christmas is coming and many people are counting on this last wave of orders at the end of the year. As it stands now, orders haven’t exploded yet, but inventory will definitely explode .

Amazon said that the reason for the adjustment was that the FBA warehouse inventory storage space was approaching the upper limit due to the busy business at the end of the year , so the adjustment was made. It also said that when the warehouse inventory space is relieved, the inventory limit will be relaxed immediately.

To put it bluntly, the warehouse restriction this time is the same as the day before yesterday. Amazon's own warehouses are already seriously overwhelmed . It did not do a good job of warehouse management during the peak season, but it wants to limit the sellers' inventory and sacrifice the sellers' interests. Yes, this is very "brother-in-law" .

What should sellers do?

It is the peak Christmas season, and if sellers cannot replenish their inventory, it will undoubtedly have a fundamental impact on the subsequent big promotion. What should sellers do in this situation?

In the email, Amazon gave the following response:

It is recommended that you start considering selling, returning or abandoning converted items to reduce your inventory.

Are you kidding me? My brother-in-law doesn't have enough inventory in his own warehouse, but he wants us sellers to cut inventory. Is this going to make sellers starve for Christmas ?

The correct way to deal with this is to postpone shipment if the upper limit of 500 inventory is sufficient. If the upper limit is insufficient and sellers are worried about product out of stock, they can take the following measures:

Price increase

Insufficient inventory and facing out-of-stock, raising prices is the most direct way! Raising product prices and reducing the number of orders can reduce the impact. However, raising prices will lead to a decrease in listing conversion rate, thereby affecting store weight and, in turn, seller rank.

Transfer to overseas warehouse

If FBA does not accept the goods, sellers can forward the goods on the way to overseas warehouses to minimize the impact of out-of-stock during the peak season!

Sell your own listing

When FBA is out of stock, sellers can adopt the method of self-delivery and follow-sell their own listings to ensure that the ranking does not drop too much.

With the successive collapse of the US and Japanese sites, FBA warehouse problems are very likely to occur on the European site . Sellers should pay close attention to Amazon’s background notifications, follow up on their goods in transit and warehousing status in real time, arrange shipments reasonably, and avoid losses!
