USPS plans to increase prices again, effective July 9, 2023!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, on April 10, the United States Postal Service (USPS) submitted a notice of price changes to the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC). If approved, the new rates will officially take effect at 12:01 am on July 9, 2023. It is worth noting that this is only half a year since the last price increase of USPS (January 22, 2023).

The new rates include an increase in the price of first-class mail from 63 cents to 66 cents. If the committee passes its review, the proposed increase would increase the overall price of first-class mail by about 5.4%.

USPS's proposed mailing price changes include:

Letter (1 oz.): Increased from 63 cents to 66 cents (up 4.8%).

Letter (1 ounce): From 60 cents to 63 cents (up 5%).

Domestic postcards: From 48 cents to 51 cents (up 6.3%).

International postcards: From $1.45 to $1.50 (up 3.5%).

International Letter (1 oz.): Increased from $1.45 to $1.50 (up 3.5%).

The USPS is also seeking to adjust prices for special service products, including certified mail, PO Box rental fees, money order fees and the cost of purchasing insurance when mailing items.

The price changes for Certified Mail are as follows:

Certified Mail: $4.35

Certified Mail with Restricted Delivery and/or Adult Signature: $11.45

USPS blames inflation for price hikes

"As our operating expenses continue to rise due to inflation and as we recognize our previous pricing model was flawed, these price adjustments are being made to provide the USPS with much-needed revenue to achieve the U.S. 10-Year Delivery Plan," the USPS said in a statement. "However, USPS prices remain the best in the world."
