TikTok has announced a new program to help small businesses better market themselves on its app and eventually become TikTok advertisers. The company is launching a free program called "Follow Me" that will provide guidance on using TikTok's range of business and creative tools, advertising and promotional features. "Follow Me" will teach these small advertisers how to set up a business account, how to access TikTok's creative hub for content inspiration, and how to use other tools such as TikTok's ad manager and promotion features. The launch of the app comes at a challenging time for TikTok, which is once again facing increasing scrutiny in the U.S. and now faces a regulatory investigation into its privacy policy changes in the European Union related to user consent for personalized advertising. TikTok’s launch of the Follow Me program signals its ambition to become the next big social advertising giant for a younger generation that has abandoned Meta’s Facebook, forcing Meta to try to make its photo and video-sharing app Instagram frequently mimic TikTok. It is understood that Meta's advertising revenue in 2021 was $115 billion, and the vast majority of advertising revenue came from small business advertisers. Although TikTok's advertising revenue accounts for only a small part of its revenue, it is growing rapidly. According to Insider Intelligence estimates, TikTok's advertising revenue is expected to triple to $11.6 billion in 2022, exceeding the total of Snap and Twitter, and by 2024, this figure may reach $23.58 billion.
