To avoid congestion at US ports, Amazon wants to buy used Boeing cargo planes and import them from China!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, due to congestion at US ports, Amazon is currently purchasing second-hand Boeing air cargo planes to transport goods directly from China to the United States in order to ease supply chain pressure and ensure that orders for the holiday shopping season can be delivered in time.

The two models Amazon is looking for are reportedly the world's largest twin-engine cargo aircraft, which will accommodate 25% more cargo than Boeing's existing cargo aircraft.

The modified Boeing 777 aircraft will import products directly from China and other countries, strengthening competition with UPS and FedEx. It is reported that the refurbished cargo version of the 777 passenger aircraft (777-300ERSF) will be put into operation next year.

Amazon Air has grown to about 75 aircraft, according to Planespotters.net, which is flown by third-party contractors but operates almost exclusively within North America and Europe.

As the pandemic restricted global supply chains, Amazon began chartering international flights to ship products to the U.S. The business is separate from Amazon Air, which also transports products for other companies. But space on planes and container ships remained scarce as the pandemic intensified.

Once Amazon gets its own cargo planes, the scale of international charter flights will be significantly reduced.
