Mexico's Christmas spending is expected to grow significantly in 2024, with average spending reaching 5,522 pesos

Kantar México recently released its latest market research, which shows that Mexicans' spending will increase significantly during the Christmas holidays in 2024. The average spending per consumer is expected to be 5,522 pesos, an increase of 13% over last year. This growth is mainly driven by gift purchases and festive dining expenses.

The study shows that Mexican consumers' main spending is concentrated on gifts and Christmas dinner. Most of the budget will be used to buy gifts. Mexicans plan to give an average of 31 gifts per person, mainly including clothing, shoes, perfume, toys, accessories and electronic products such as mobile phones.

The cost of Christmas dinner is not to be ignored. The National Union of Small Businessmen (ANPEC) estimates that a Christmas dinner for 15 people will cost more than 14,000 pesos, a 25% increase from last year. The increase is mainly attributed to the increase in food and beverage prices.

As consumers increasingly plan their holiday spending ahead of time, many choose to use part of their Christmas bonuses to buy gifts or pay off debts. Online shopping has become the main way to shop, with Amazon being the most popular platform.

The growth of Christmas spending this year is affected by a variety of factors. Inflation has pushed up the prices of food and basic consumer goods, increasing the cost of Christmas spending. As the economy gradually recovers, the financial situation of some families has improved, so they can spend more budget on holiday celebrations. The booming e-commerce has enabled consumers to shop more conveniently and enjoy a richer selection of products.
