Basic Introduction

Sellers who want to sell handmade products on the Amazon platform must first create a craftsman profile page. Here, they have a lot of space to describe their craftsmanship and display products on pages rich in text and pictures. It should be noted that all products must meet Amazon's definition of handmade products: "Creative, completely hand-made (no tools) modified or assembled products. The product must be made by the craftsman, or one of his employees or a member of the company."

Starting from August 1, 2016, the referral fee for products in Amazon's Handmade standard category will increase to 15%, with a minimum referral fee of $1 per transaction. Previously, the Handmade referral fee was 12%, with a minimum referral fee of $0.5 per transaction.

Starting from 2018, Handmade sellers will need to pay a membership fee of $39.99.

In June 2016, the number of products on Amazon’s handmade platform increased fourfold to 400,000, with sellers from all 50 states in the United States and more than 80 countries around the world.

In September 2016, Amazon announced that it would expand its Handmade business into the European market, with the first cities including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Amazon’s handmade e-commerce platform Handmade has officially launched in Canada and will be open to sellers for free until the end of 2018.

Some sellers said that Etsy's decision to allow processed goods to enter the platform and compete with pure handicrafts for the market disappointed many people. One seller said: "Buyers have to read thousands of spam messages before they can buy real handmade products." Amazon Handmade's promise that "handicrafts must be handmade" made sellers happy to go there, because many of them were dissatisfied with Etsy's encouragement of sellers and manufacturers to cooperate to expand the scale.
